Obtain endocavitary (transvaginal) ultrasound probes from POD B SOILED UTILITY. There is a cabinet with clean/sterilized probes (which can be identified by the plastic cover containing a sticker with the date of sterilization).
After using the endocavitary (trans-vaginal) ultrasound probe:
- Disconnect probe from US machine
- Clean probe with Clorox (green) wipe
- Place probe in red biohazard bag and obtain two (2) patient stickers
- Place one sticker in the red bag and tape one on the outer part of the bag
- Place red bag (with probe and stickers) in the soiled utility room on the table across from the clean probe cabinet.
- Alert charge nurse that a probe has been placed there, and inform MEA that probe needs to be disinfected.
DO NOT leave endocavitary probes lying around without stickers or without notifying MEA/Charge Nurse.
